Liberty Paintball - Fall 2005
After Action Report
By Joe (Cardiac Kid)
On Sunday November 27th, the Loaded Crows took the field at Liberty paintball for what promised to be a bloody battle. In unfamiliar territory, 4 members of our undersized team chose to do battle on behalf of the Red team in Liberties season ending scenario game.
Amongst the “Loaded Crows” members who faced the cold were; David , Todd , Sgt Nancy – Aaron and Joe (aka the Cardiac Kid).
The field was larger then we were used to, and un-scouted. The chain of command was non existent. The red teams general was an inexperienced teenage volunteer. The bulk of our force was comprised of children, and before midday our team was outnumbered by 20 troops on the opposing side. Despite the odds the loaded crows picked up some experienced unaffiliated scouts to bulk our force and in groups we rallied against the blue team.
A main highlight of the morning battle must be attributed to Todd, who upon discovering his gun pressure had become underpowered, flanked blue troops surrendering five enemy soldiers in a brutal balls to the wall sneak attack.
Our weapons worked well, a testament to the good ammo provided at the liberty fields as opposed to others who passed off cheap stale paint at premium prices. Flatlines at the ready our troops pushed forward holding the blue lines at bay and pushing them back. Most of our team took support positions with our Flatlines providing greater fire distance we took out enemy troops and provided cover fire for red teams advancement. Within the last hour of morning play, our team had pushed the Blue soldiers back to there insertion point, and was keeping them contained. When lunch break was called Red team had a nearly insurmountable lead over blue.
As afternoon play began we discovered that more of our team had gone AWOL, Greatly outnumbered we took heart in the fact that we had a tremendous lead over the enemy. But things can change quickly in the heat of battle. As our numbers dwindled we found ourselves pinned at our own insertion point, much as the blue team had been earlier in the day. The ref’s had decided in order to give the blue team a fighting chance, Red team would be limited to only enter at the one point which was completely pinned down, to further skew the battle blues insertion point was only 100 yards from ours. It was an uphill battle, every time headway was made the blues would fill in the ranks and red team remained pinned.
Most of the remaining Red team members were cowards who feared death, and as such almost the entire red team found itself trapped in the area before entering the field. After numerous suicide runs by Todd, the Loaded crows stepped up to bat and attempted to rally the troops into a glorious charge. The children would not leave the gate and we found ourselves gunned down by superior numbers. In one attempt Todd sprinted across the field in a kamikaze dash and managed to make it behind enemy lines, Later a ref would comment that the entire blue teams gunfire which was all aimed directly at Todd “had been deafening.”.
Additional hilarity props go to the 3 unknown soldiers on the red team who followed suit, charging over and over again towards the blue team wielding no weapons other then Jedi light sabers.
As the day wound down, most of Red team had left in frustration. The refs finally allowed us to enter at another insertion point and we headed out to give blue some pay back. Quickly flanking and gunning down the unsuspecting troops. Many of the red team chose to go for the pain, intentionally unloading unmercifully on our victims. While satisfying this rally was too little too late, and upon the end of the game it was announced that blue team had managed to grasp a narrow victory from the afternoons play.
Overall the event was a lot of fun. After an energetic kill your enemy day we left the field exhausted and sore. Todd had been shot so many times his back looked like a star chart of welts, complete with constellations. If there was any true disappointment it was that more of our team couldn’t make it out to play that day. Hopefully this will be remedied in upcoming events.
